Just a short drive from the City, Sonoma County shines with breathtaking scenery and a uniquely relaxed, laid-back vibe. Offering all the old-world viticultural heritage and modern creative chops you could ever want in a high-brow wine destination— she still prefers to maintain her down-home charm. Don’t let Sonoma’s warm welcome fool you though, she’s a sophisticated lady in blue jeans.
During our approximately 90 minute drive from San Francisco “SF”, we’ll cross the Golden Gate Bridge, look down onto the harbors of Sausalito, and enter a countryside that feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of the City.
Sonoma County is all about our relationship with the land. With its rolling hills, windswept valleys and secret canyons, it has some of the most interesting topography – and versatile wine-growing terroir in the world! Talented farmers grow just about every known varietal here— though many are particularly fond of crisp whites and Pinots. Unlike the “Old-World,” very few rules limit anyone’s creativity. It’s truly an adventurous wine makers dream!
Our day will focus on the winemaking process from the farm to your table. How do wine makers choose where to grow, and what varietals will thrive? How do they protect and cultivate their vineyard to make sure that their fruit is just perfect for the crush? Learn about the secrets of cultivating grapes that ultimately become world-class vino. During our time together, we’ll discuss Sonoma County in relation to the Napa Valley growing area, as well as draw comparisons with Old World oenology.
Together we’ll get to know two wine producers, which trust us, is PERFECT for an indulgent, relaxed experience.
As part of this experience you’ll meet the real people behind the gorgeous wines. The dream-makers, risk-takers, passionate artists and mad-scientists. The men and women who make it all happen… and possibly their friendly dog!
We’ll have the opportunity to explore vineyards in a vehicle or on foot, stop and smell the lush soil, inspect the rows, and depending on the season, perhaps also try some of the grape “berries” straight from the vine. Of course no visit to wine country is complete without sampling the finished product. Our tour will include stops at two wine properties.
AN INDULGENT UPGRADE: Elevate your experience even further. Allow us to arrange an exclusive wine-pairing luncheon at the private family home of our grape-grower. Each course of your meal will be designed by our personal chef to perfectly compliment the wines featured in your tasting. Your “Spark Ambassador” and our winemakers will host this experience, personally guiding you through the pairings, in a way that is multi-sensory, fun and completely accessible. Zero intimidation here! Our core philosophy is that wine AND food are meant to be enjoyed, never feared! We’ll also take the opportunity to get up close and experience the vineyard itself (so if you plan to walk the grapes with us, please wear shoes that won’t sink to deep in the soil or you might get stuck!). Weather permitting, this sumptuous meal and experience could take place outdoors in the garden, among the vines and protected by a shaded pergola.
To inquire, please contact us immediately following your booking, and we’ll work with our team to confirm availability for your preferred date. If you see a date that is not currently not available on our calendar, send us an email, as we may be able to work a little magic!
Tasting fees are not included in the Spark Experience price. We make all the arrangements for you, based on our your personal tastes and our expertise, so fees will vary based on your needs (and we’d never want you to overpay by charging some preset amount). Some properties may require tasting fees paid in advance (which we are happy to do), if not, tasting fees may be payable to the property at time of service. We’ll advise you what to expect, negotiate on your behalf and work with your budget as needed. Typically fees in Sonoma county range from $25-75 per person, which is a wonderful value compared to their cousins in Napa Valley. Similarly, restaurant meals are also payable at time of service.
As discerning locals, this is OUR very favorite Sonoma experience and top-pick in this destination. You may notice its quite different from what most tour providers advertise (formulaic run-of-the-mill wine-tours are so not OUR style). If you are a first-time visitor or seeking something more traditional, we also offer “Classic” Sonoma County, which focuses on Sonoma Square and wines of the Petaluma Gap in roughly 6 hours.
By state law, this experience is limited to guests 21 years and older. If you’d like to include minor children, please contact us. We’ll happily customize an experience just for your family!
